Almost everybody speaks about the Apple revolutionary new phone; and it’s true the new iPod Touch Phone is truly amazing. Let’s have a look at what is so amazing about it: First it’s an apple NOT Microsoft system – summarized, that means less system crashes and good taste design. Multi touch interaction – meaning the actual touch screen can handle more than one user input at a time. Example: for zooming in on a picture, web page, map you can virtually stretch the screen with two fingers – the effect is truly mind blowing. Portrait-Landscape auto adjustment – When viewing a picture for example, if you turn the iPhone from a portrait position to landscape the photo will auto adjust it’s self so the user sees it in the right position. This was cleavery done with the help of a small gyroscope placed inside the iPhone I presume. Possibility to install different applications: Very good compatibility with: Macintosh, Microsoft as well as other platforms out there. But the most amazing thing about the iPhone is the menu. It is simply clear and easy to understand, very well organized plus it puts on a show every time you interact with it – skipping pages on the menu is not a pain and a waste of time any more …but a delightful and smooth experience. But the iPhone is not all good: You have probably heard that Apple locked the phone and they did a pretty good job maybe not with the first lot of iPhones as they ware easily “unlocked” but with the most recent ones. What does “unlocking” means??? Well first of all if you want to install applications and small customizations on the new iPhone you can’t so you have to pass through an operation called “jailbreak” by the groups of “independent programmers” once you did that your phone is fully customizable and you are free to fix your device with the coolest applications out there (from apple or any other providers – on your own risk of course). But this was just the first step the next step is to make your phone work with your network as for example in Belgium we can not yet buy iPhones that work with our carriers so we have to “import” from USA, UK and others! This step is the most important because if you don’t do it you’ll never have a phone in reality; it’ll be just a Apple pocket or an iPod touch!!! As I told you before “unlocking” was easy for the first lots of iPhones but recently Apple released new a firmware called 1.1.3 (January 15, 2008) This was recently broken but the Apple offensive will start soon. If you do a simple research on line you’ll see that Apple is in a constant battle with the groups of “independent programmers” unlocking solutions will come soon and counter solutions “firmware” will come as well being trapped in between with a useless phone is no fun at all! |
