Speeding up my computer – A heavy on resources Antivirus Imprimer Email
THURSDAY, 02 OCTOBER 2008 10:32

Here is a dilemma that almost everybody has, what to use for security??? - and quite frankly it’s not easy to choose. Why?

Well my question is this: Do you want to be fast or secure? Some of the security tools out there are doing a great job but they really “kill” the computer and our patience of course.
The only way of knowing the right tool for you is to try the trials or demo versions out, for example Kaspersky gives 1 month complete protection free, Avast gives two month, there are others but we mainly use the two for our customers.

If you are a bit uncertain please try them out and see what works for your system, there are very powerful computers out there that wouldn’t mind spending a bit more resources for security so you’ll never see your computer go slow, also there are weak computers out there for witch installing an antivirus would be noticeable right away.

NOTE: Usually computers start a bit slow if an antivirus is install so that is normal it’ll take anywhere from 10 to 25 seconds plus. But that is absolutely normal, a complete antivirus starts 4 to 6 new processes, you can see that in the process list.

When you install a new antivirus do not panic and go for the maximum security level as that will really slow you down, instead go for typical settings if you are not using your computer for more that browsing around, emailing and photos/video/documents. If you do bank transfers we recon that a typical setting will do just fine as well. The only need for more advance settings will be when you collect sensitive data, pay online often with credit cards, etc…

Most new computers come with Norton Antivirus pre install, we think that is not really fair as you cannot even uninstall it easily, our advice is use it and see how your system handles but if you have the impression that things are not fast enough though the computer is new contact us by mail through the contact page. We will be only glad to help you out – our advices are free of charge.
