What is “Backup?”
A copy of all your important data made for safe keeping usually on a removable media (a double of what we already have) We all hear the word “Backup” form private individuals, medium and small companies to big and huge ones “the backup systems” are a good excuse to spend sometimes impressive amounts of money and resources. We have all experienced data loss one way or another. They all fail because of different reasons; this is why a backup of important data is needed – at least every month. Where do we BACKUP? You can eider backup locally on a second hard drive or external hard drive on your machine or on your network, but also with the help of specialized hosting companies you can have all your backups on line on a secure server – this second option is preferred by companies mainly though a strong security issue is to be discussed. Regarding private individuals we have remarked that almost 95% of the customers we’ve had experienced the data loss and backup loss or failure. So the question is: Where shall I backup in order to be 99, 9% sure? When thinking of private individuals with a relative small amount of data to be backed up (between 100 to 300 GB) than an external hard drive would be very useful investment (around 120 to 150 euros in Belgium) and if that is too expensive for you …than you could try to burn double layer DVD’s it will take time but this solution is one of the safest I know! When talking about companies and serious amount of data (from 1TB onwards) than a network computer with serious hard drive space would be a good solution it the procedure seem too complicated than an on line “backup” can be appropriate, Bimos.be will set up an online backup system for small and medium companies as well as for private individuals we have no launching date for now but we’ll post a small add on the site soon! From our experience very few people backup also private individuals think they have little or no important data on their computers never the less you’ll remember all the important files once it’s too late. Fortunately now a days there are some procedures to save data from damaged hard disks, cd’s, dvd’s etc. here at Bimos.be we perform such operations but we prefer to advice or help you set up a backup system than to resort to complicated procedures that are expensive and not all the time guaranteed. If you have questions about backup systems do not hesitate to use our contact page, we’ll be more than happy to be of service with free of charge advices and tips on how to get the right hardware for your needs!
